Mito-caged sphingosine is a new light-activated lipid molecule synthesized as an inactive molecule that would only localize to mitochondria and which can be activated with a flash of light. In human cells, activated mito-caged sphingosine is converted to sphingosine 1 phosphate within the mitochondria, before being exported rapidly to another compartment. The new compound represents a useful tool for many researchers studying both metabolism and signaling as well as those seeking a better understanding of mitochondria biology.
Membrane tension probes
Fluorescent membrane tension probe (FliptR)
FliptR is a membrane push-pull probe developed for measuring tension probe (FliptR: “fluorescent lipid tension reporter”) which consists of two large dithienothiophene flippers. In a non-confining environment, the two flippers are twisted out of conjugation. FliptR insert in an oriented fashion into membranes. It has high photostability, partitions almost equally into different membrane phases, has different fluorescence absorption/emission spectra between lipid phase, does not change position following a lipid phase transition, and does not disturb membrane order. FliptR can planarize with an increase in lateral pressure. It can be used to image a combination of lipid composition and membrane tension in live cells and artificial membranes.

1. SiR actin kit
SiR-actin is a fluoregenic, cell permeable and highly specific probe for F-actin. Sir-actin is based on the F-actin binding natural product jasplakinolide. Sir-actin stains endogenous F-actin without the need for genetic manipulation or overexpression. Its emission in the far red minimizes phototoxicity and sample autofluorescence. SiR-actin is compatible with GFP and/or m-cherry fluorescent proteins. It can be imaged with standard Cy5 filtersets. SiR-actin can be used for widefield, confocal, SIM or STED imaging in living cells and tissue.

2. SiR-tubulin kit
SiR-tubulin is a fluorogenic, cell permeable and highly specific probe for microtubules. SiR-tubulin is based on the microtubule binding drug Docetaxel. SiR-tubulin is fluorogenic, cell permeable and highly specific for microtubules. Sir-tubulin stains endogenous microtubules without the need for genetic manipulation or overexpression. Its emission in the far red minimizes phototoxicity and sample autofluorescence. SiR-tubulin is compatible with GFP and/or m-cherry fluorescent proteins. It can be imaged with standard Cy5 filtersets. SiR-tubulin can be used for widefield, confocal, SIM or STED imaging in living cells and tissue.
