Project 6: Neurobiology of Gambling Behaviors: Understanding Neural Mechanisms and Addiction

Project Leader: Gerardo Turcatti

Collaborator: Dimitri Moreau

Project overview

The goal of this project is to use neurobiological tools and behavioral assays to investigate the brain's response to gambling behaviors, focusing on how neural circuits, neurotransmitters, and environmental factors contribute to risk-taking, reward processing, and compulsive gambling tendencies. By combining advanced imaging techniques and cognitive models, we aim to uncover the neurobiological mechanisms driving gambling addiction, particularly in the context of both traditional and online gambling. Insights from this research are expected to inform new therapeutic strategies for treating gambling disorder, bridging the gap between neurobiology, psychology, and behavioral science.
