The NCCR Chemical Biology welcomes high-impact chemical biology screening projects to be adapted and screened at the BSF-ACCESS platform (Lausanne) and/or the ACCESS Geneva platform in 2018.
Close collaboration with the ACCESS platforms will ensure optimisation of the technical design including assay development to be used in high-throughput/content screening, choice of chemical libraries to screen, data analysis in “hit selection” and validation and “hit-to-lead” optimization stages. Results and intellectual property data resulting from projects funded through the call will be owned by the researcher’s group organizations.
- Relevance of the project and robustness of preliminary data
- Originality and/or innovative potential of the project
- Feasibility of the project, adaptability of the proposed assay to a high-throughput screening format.
- Clarity of the plan for the confirmation, evaluation of the significance and prioritization of primary hits.
- Overall clarity of objectives and outcomes of the project
- Prospects in terms of future development
Proposals will be evaluated first by a scientific committee composed of ACCESS platform representatives and members of the NCCR Chemical Biology. An interview with the project leader may be requested. Short listed projects will then be selected by the NCCR Chemical Biology Steering Committee.
The project must rely on scientifically validated preliminary data. The biological model (target/ process/ phenotype) will have been identified and validated. The relevance of the screening assay to be used in high-throughput chemical screening should be clearly defined.
The call is open to members of the Swiss Academic Institutions.
The NCCR Chemical Biology may provide financial support for each of the following stages:
- Assay development and screening: for the setting up and validation of an assay, primary high-through put screening of a few thousands up to 50K chemical compound library, hit confirmation, dose-response and a report of results provided by the screening platform.
- “Hit-to-lead” process.

February 12, 2018: Announcement of the granted projects.
The title of the selected projects and name of the principal investigator will be published on the website of the NCCR Chemical Biology. The summary written for a general audience may be asked and used for communication purposes of the NCCR.
It is required that projects funded by the NCCR Chemical Biology be acknowledged in all publications and communications. Reference(s) of the publication(s) must be sent to the NCCR Chemical Biology.
